It has been AMAZING in Room 225, lately! So many wonderful things have been going on in our classroom. Here are but a few:
We decided to work on the Everyday Math Project: Patchwork Quilts. This project was designed to get students thinking about symmetry, pattern, rotation, translations, etc. in clever and unique ways. Needless to say, the students hit this project out of the ballpark!!! They began by designing 9-Patch Blocks on paper. Those were wonderful in and of themselves. Then, Mrs. Sarah Laing came in and took things to a different level by showing how pattern and design influences everything--even our cell phone covers! She shared that one of our Lincoln parents gets to do that in the "real world" everyday! How cool is that! Then, she allowed them to make felt blocks using their own symmetrical design. She encouraged them them to rotate their felt square to make a masterpiece. And that is exactly how they turned out--wait until you see them!
But things did not end there! Students asked if they could do "a real" 9-Patch block. So I cut several hundred four-inch batik squares for our use. :) And Thank You, Mrs. Maldonado--Aramis's Mom- for the beautiful gingerbread men, woodland animal, and fuchsia fabric choices--just to list a few. The students really enjoyed using your fabric donation! Then Alice Swain (Rex's Mom) came in and helped to thread a million and one needles and assist me in teaching students how to make a basic stitch. Together, we were able to get students well on their way-- and many of you helped them to finish up! The result? Amazing Awesome-ness!!!!! Miles even made his into a pillow with the help of his Grandma! You go, Miles!!
Thank you to everyone!!!!
